Notaries are authorized by Florida law* to perform six basic duties:

- Administer oaths or affirmations

- Take acknowledgments

- Solemnize marriages

- Attest to photocopies

- Verify vehicle identification numbers (VINs)

- Certify the contents of a safe-deposit box
